In 1954 he received half an assistant position at the history seminar of the University of Munich. In 1956 he received his doctorate in medieval history with a dissertation on “The history of the Freising Cathedral Chapter from its beginnings to the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Century ". In 1956/57 he worked at the institute of the Görres Society in Rome on the "History of the Papal State Secretariat ".

From 1957 to 1960 Hejo Busley completed his legal clerkship for the higher service at the archive school in Munich. He then joined the Bavarian Central State Archives , where he worked until his retirement in 1995. From 1973 to 1977 he was in charge of the “Secret State Archives”, then the “Newer Holdings” department; from 1981 as chief archive director.

Hejo Busley taught as a lecturer at the Archive School in Munich and at the Bavarian Civil Service College . In 1978 he was given a teaching position for Bavarian history at the Institute for Bavarian History at the LMU and, from 1988, an additional teaching position for source studies in Bavarian history at the Institute for Bavarian Folklore. In 1989, Hejo Busley was appointed honorary professor of Bavarian history by the University of Munich and participated in the training of regional historians.

Research activity

His personal research focus developed from the Middle Ages to modern history and contemporary history. In his research, Hejo Busley mainly deals with canon law in Germany (with special consideration of Bavaria ), contemporary history in Bavaria and the role of Bavaria in German unification in 1870/71.

In 1971 he was responsible for the conception and implementation of the exhibition “Bavaria and German Unification 1870/71”, which was the first to show secret original documents about money requests from Ludwig II to Otto von Bismarck .

From 1988 Hejo Busley was able to win over the administration of the district to publish a comprehensive "district book", on which numerous experts collaborated. It became the standard work on the district and exemplary for similar efforts in Bavaria. The comprehensively conceived series “Contributions to the Fürstenfeldbruck district. Nature-History-Culture ”came from the first volume“ Refugees and displaced persons in the Fürstenfeldbruck district. Aspects of their integration ”, which his student Angelika Schuster-Fox wrote.

Personal

In 1960 he married Edeltraud Illinger. Hejo Busley was active in the field of culture and school policy in the town of Eichenau and in the Fürstenfeldbruck district (1968 founder of the music school; long-standing parents' council in elementary schools and grammar schools; pioneer for a grammar school in Eichenau / Puchheim). In 1992 the story of the Fürstenfeldbruck district he had conceived was published (at the same time co-editor and co-author). In addition to various activities in the Catholic Church, he also wrote the church leader for the local community. For the 100th anniversary of the political community (2007) he developed the concept for the local history "In the shadow of a big city. Eichenau 1907-2007", on which he also worked as (co-) editor and author.
