The Realschule is the only one in North Rhine-Westphalia that offers the international youth program. In the 2004/2005 school year, for the first time, pupils from a so-called silver group , a support level in the international youth program, will be able to graduate.
history
In 1965 a large school center was built in Wipperfürth on the Mühlenberg above the Gaulbachtal . The secondary school and the Konrad Adenauer secondary school in Wipperfürth found a location here. On a Wednesday, April 20, 1966, school operations began with a first short school year. 47 pupils were given lessons in the building of the former Frieda-Jung school in the Neye settlement. In 1968 the new secondary school was built on Ostlandstrasse. On December 9, 1969, the half-finished new building in Ostlandstrasse was moved into. 278 students were taught there. In autumn 1973, the new building of the secondary school was completed with a second construction phase.
In 2010 the school was named in honor of the entrepreneur Hermann Voss in Hermann Voss-Realschule renamed.
Projects
Photovoltaic system
The school became known in a larger area for its photovoltaic project. So they won in the category "Local Authorities" to the EnergieAgentur.NRW prize awarded Solar Award NRW 2003 . A system was installed on the roof of the building, which has a nominal output of 12.5 kWp over an area of 110 m² and thus generates an energy yield of an average of 10,000 kWh.
The idea for this project arose in May 2001 during a project week. In terms of financing, they went new ways. Teachers, former students, parents, local companies and even politicians from federal and state levels jointly founded an investment company. The aim of the project is, among other things, to act as a pioneer in the field of "renewable energies" for other institutions but also for home owners and thus to break new ground in the participation of public and private households. The pupils should also be confronted with the advantages of photovoltaics through an early, practical examination.
The system went online in December 2001 with 122 modules and by June 2009 had made a profit of around 38,500 euros.
On January 2, 2006, 48 modules worth 50,000 euros were stolen. In February 2006, they were found again by accidental police arrest.
Student exchange
Since the end of the 1990s, the Realschule and the Engelbert-von-Berg-Gymnasium have been participating in a student exchange program with the Collège Hélène de Fonsèque in the Wipperfürth twin town of Surgères in France .
