Surgères is a commune with 6807 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in France and is located in the Pays d'Aunis in the Charente-Maritime department . This is bordered in the north by the Poitevini Moor , in the east by the Boutonne valley, in the south by the Charente valley and finally in the west by the Atlantic coast .

Surgères owes its name to the small river Gères . Surgères includes the municipalities of Breuil la Réorte, Marsais, Péré, Puyravault, Saint Germain de Marencennes, Saint Georges du Bois, Saint Mard, Saint Pierre d'Amilly, Saint Saturnin du Bois, Vandre and Vouhé.
