Saint-Coutant-le-Grand is located about 14 kilometers east-northeast of the city center of Rochefort on the Boutonne , which borders the municipality in the south. Saint-Coutant-le-Grand is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Moragne in the north, Tonnay-Boutonne in the northeast, Puy-du-Lac in the east and southeast, Champdolent in the south and Lussant in the west.
