Saint-Agnant is a French commune with 2,682 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the arrondissement of Rochefort and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Saint-Agnant (since 2015 the municipality has belonged to the canton of Marennes ).
geography
Saint-Agnant is about eight kilometers south of Rochefort , on the edge of the marshland around the mouth of the Seudre River . Saint-Agnant is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Échillais in the north, Trizay in the east and northeast, Champagne in the east and southeast, Saint-Jean-d'Angle in the south, Beaugeay in the west and Soubise in the northwest. Saint-Agnant is the ship channel Canal de la Seudre à la Charente (also Canal de Bridoire called) crosses.
Rochefort Airport , which is used for both military and civil purposes, is located in the municipality . The former route nationale 733 (today's D733) runs through the municipality .
