Bourcefranc-le-Chapus is a French commune with 3,454 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Rochefort and the canton of Marennes . The inhabitants are called Bourcefrançais and Chapusais .

Bourcefranc-le-Chapus is located at the mouth of the Seudre in the Atlantic Ocean and at the Viaduc d'Oléron to the Île d'Oléron . Bourcefranc-le-Chapus is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Marennes-Hiers-Brouage in the east, south and south-east and on the opposite side of the strait from Oléron Le Château-d'Oléron and Saint-Trojan-les-Bains on the Île d'Oléron .

In 1908 the municipality was formed from the two localities Bourcefranc and Le Chapus and separated from Marennes.
