Jean-Marie Bertholin

Jean-Marie Bertholin (* 1936 in Granges-sur-Vologne , Département Vosges ) is a French object artist .

Life

Bertholin worked as a nurse in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges from 1952 . As an artist he is self-taught . He has been working with gauze bandages since 1960, and he calls the resulting objects objets noirs . Steles and blocks are often made of paper, they are treated with water, fire or lacquer and look like concrete or other durable materials. The paper comes from paper mills in the Vosges .

Many of his art objects are destroyed by himself. Bertholin regards his art as oneː
