Marennes-Hiers-Brouage is a French commune with 6,252 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Rochefort and the Canton of Marennes .

It was created as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2019 through the amalgamation of the previous municipalities of Marennes and Hiers-Brouage , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are located in Marennes.

Location and infrastructure

The community is located at the mouth of the Seudre River in the Atlantic Ocean , around 40 kilometers south of La Rochelle .

Neighboring municipalities are: Moëze in the north, Beaugeay in the northeast, Saint-Jean-d'Angle in the east, Saint-Just-Luzac in the southeast, La Tremblade in the south and Bourcefranc-le-Chapus in the west.

The Aeroport de Marennes airport is located to the east, just outside the municipality, in the municipality of Saint-Just-Luzac.
