Saint-Mard is a French commune with 1,198 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Poitou-Charentes ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Rochefort and is part of the canton of Surgères . The inhabitants are called Saint-Mardois .

Saint-Mard is located about 34 kilometers east-southeast of La Rochelle in the historic Aunis region . Saint-Mard is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Surgères in the north and west, Saint-Saturnin-du-Bois in the north, Marsais in the northeast, Bernay-Saint-Martin in the east and southeast, Breuil-la-Réorte in the south and La Devise in the southwest .
