Le Thou is a French commune with 1,900 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Rochefort and is part of the canton of Surgères . The inhabitants are called Tholusiens .
geography
Le Thou is located about 19 kilometers east-southeast of La Rochelle and about 16 kilometers north-northeast of Rochefort in the historic Aunis region . Le Thou is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis in the north, Forges in the east and northeast, Landrais in the east and southeast, Ciré-d'Aunis in the south, Ballon in the southwest, Thairé in the west and Croix-Chapeau in the northwest.
