Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis is a French municipality with 4037 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Rochefort and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Surgères . The inhabitants are called Aigrefeuillais .
geography
Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis is located about 25 kilometers east of La Rochelle in the historic Aunis region . Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Christophe in the north, Virson in the northeast, Forges in the east, Le Thou in the south, Croix-Chapeau in the southwest and La Jarrie in the west.
The former route nationale 139 (today's D939) runs through the municipality .
