Nicolaus Gryse (born November 25, 1543 in Rostock ; † August 6, 1614 ) was a German Lutheran clergyman.

Life

From April 1560, Gryse studied Protestant theology at the University of Rostock . He completed his studies with a doctorate to obtain a master's degree . In 1574 he was preacher at the Katharinenkirche of the former Katharinenkloster and in 1577 also preacher of the church of the former monastery of the Holy Cross in Rostock. He retained both preaching offices until his death. He has come down to us as the first biographer of the Rostock reformer Joachim Slüter . The biography was re-edited in 1832 by Karl Friedrich Ludwig Arndt (1787–1862), Rector of the Ratzeburg Cathedral School.

He wrote these and his other writings in Low German . Friedrich Schlie documents a pastor picture of Gryses from the Katharinenkirche, which was kept in the museum of the city of Rostock around 1900; it is shown today in the cultural history museum of the city of Rostock .
