Hermann Adler (Major General)

Hermann Adler (born November 20, 1890 in Berlin , † January 26, 1967 in Junkersdorf ) was a German officer , most recently major general in World War II , and a military writer . Most of his works were placed on the list of literature to be segregated in the Soviet occupation zone in 1946 .

Life

Adler joined the 4th Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 67 on October 1, 1910 as a one-year volunteer . With the outbreak of the First World War he was reactivated and assigned to the 6th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 95 as Vice Sergeant in the Reserve , with which he reached the front. On January 30, 1915 he was promoted to lieutenant of the reserve and as such he was transferred to the air force on October 1, 1915 . He was a member of this after the end of the war until he left military service on February 15, 1919.

Adler was a major in the Reich Ministry of Aviation in 1939 . In 1941 he had the rank of lieutenant colonel and was co-editor of the German aviation calendar for several years. In the same year he took on the technical advice on the script for the documentary Himmelstürmer by Walter Jerven.

In 1944 Adler took over command of the Flieger-Regiment 93 and a short time later the paratrooper regiment "Adler" named after him. On April 1, 1945 he was promoted to major general. From June to July 1945 he was interned in East Frisia and then until December 1946 in English captivity.
