Hermann August Krauss (born August 1, 1848 in Tübingen ; † April 21, 1939 there ) was a doctor and entomologist .

Life

Krauss, whose father August Krauss (1806–1896) was a senior medical officer in Tübingen, studied medicine in Graz and was a southern railway doctor in Marburg an der Drau . From 1876 to 1880 he was an assistant at the Natural History Court Museum in Vienna. From 1881 he settled as a doctor in Tübingen, where he became a senior doctor.

Among other things, he collected beetles, but also plants (for example in the Sahara in Algeria). His large collection of locusts came to the Natural History Cabinet in Stuttgart.

Some first descriptions of beetles and grasshoppers come from him (for example Eurycorypha aequatorialis ). He published on entomology (for example, grasshoppers and earwigs from North Africa and the Middle East) and also dealt with fish.

In 1931 he became an honorary member of the Association for Patriotic Natural History in Württemberg .
