Hermann Christian Hornborstel
Hermann Christian Hornborstel (born July 2, 1695 in Dörverden , † January 14, 1757 in Hamburg ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and chief pastor in Hamburg.
Life
Hermann Christian Hornborstel was a son of the pastor Christian Hornbostel. He attended the Domgymnasium Verden and the Ernestinum in Celle . From 1715 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Helmstedt . After an interruption, he went to the University of Halle in 1719 . From 1721 he was an adjunct of his father until his death in 1733. He then became a deacon and adjunct of the superintendent in Dannenberg , who he succeeded in 1735.
In February 1740 he was elected chief pastor of the Hamburg main church St. Nikolai . He was considered a popular preacher.
Hornbostel was initially married to a daughter of the merchant Bierwirth in Celle. She died in 1732, and in the following year he married the daughter of Hofmedicus Dankwerth in Uelzen . From both marriages he had 19 children, ten of whom survived.
