Hermann Dembowski

Hermann Dembowski (born November 20, 1928 in Carlshof , Rastenburg district , today Karolewo (Kętrzyn) ; † October 31, 2012 in Bonn ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor.

Life

Hermann Dembowski grew up in Carlshof as the son of the director of the local diaconal institutions . After fleeing and graduating from high school, he studied Protestant theology at the universities of Marburg , Göttingen and Basel from the summer semester of 1947 . In 1953 he was in Göttingen with a dissertation on the Johannes understanding of Origen Dr. theol. PhD. After completing his studies, he was ordained pastor of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck , but took up an academic career.

In 1967 he completed his habilitation at the University of Bonn, where he taught systematic theology until his retirement in 1994.

He was Ephorus of the Iwand House and from 1987 to 2003 a member of the board of the International Bonhoeffer Society in Germany.
