Hermann Dietler (born October 1, 1839 in Breitenbach , † January 24, 1924 in Lucerne , Christian Catholic , resident in Kleinlützel ) was a Swiss politician (FDP) .

Life

Hermann Dietler was born on October 1, 1839 in Breitenbach, the son of the notary and chief magistrate Urs Josef Dietler. Dietler received his education first at the secondary school in Olten , then at the canton school in Pruntrut and finally at the industrial school in Zurich. In 1860 he graduated as a civil engineer from the Zurich Polytechnic .

Subsequently, Dietler was involved as an engineer in the construction of the Oron Railway from 1860 to 1862 , then until 1864 in the construction of the Emmental Railway and finally from 1871 to 1873 in the construction of the Chemins de fer du Jura bernois . In between he was employed as a Solothurn canton engineer from 1864 to 1866. Subsequently, he acted as director of the Emmentalbahn from 1873 to 1879, as a member of the board from 1879, from 1908 as president and board member of the Gotthardbahn and from 1909 to 1912 as manager of the liquidation company.

Hermann Dietler, father of the writer Cécile Lauber , was married to Sophie, the daughter of the manufacturer August Kottmann. He died on January 24, 1924, three months after he had turned 84 in Lucerne. He found his final resting place in the Friedental cemetery .

Political offices

Hermann Dietler, a member of the Freedom Democratic Party, was a member of the cantonal government from 1866 to 1871 , where he headed the building department. He was then represented in the Solothurn Cantonal Council from 1874 to 1879 . In addition, he represented his canton in the National Council for four years after the parliamentary elections in 1875 .

The internationally recognized railway specialist Hermann Dietler made outstanding contributions to road , river and railway construction, for example the Gäubahn , in Solothurn .
