Hermann Franke (born December 5, 1847 in Weddersleben , † September 16, 1932 in Schleusingen ) was a German high school teacher and geologist .

Hermann Franke studied mathematics and physics at the Universities of Halle , Berlin and Greifswald and received his doctorate in philosophy in Jena in 1874 . In 1879 he started teaching as a senior teacher for mathematics, physics and natural history at the Hennebergisches Gymnasium in Schleusingen, where he was appointed high school professor in 1893 and retired early in 1910 because of an ear problem. In 1895 he chaired the town council of Schleusingen, of which he was a member from 1891 to 1912.

Franke's passion was geology. He founded the Schleusingen branch of the Thuringian Geological Association , of which he later became an honorary member, and is a co-founder of the Thuringian Forest Association. He published in the fields of geology and mineralogy . On his travels and excursions, he brought together a mineral collection, which after his death at the instigation of Paul Georgis (1891-1976), also a teacher at the Hennebergisches Gymnasium, transferred to a foundation and exhibited from 1934 to 1974 in the Professor-Dr.-Franke-Museum has been. Today this collection is shown and honored in the Natural History Museum in Schleusingen .
