Hermann H. Hahn (born August 2, 1940 in Immenstadt ) is a German engineer and emeritus university professor for urban water management .

Life

Hermann H. Hahn was born on August 2, 1940 in Immenstadt. After graduating from high school in Kempten in 1959 , he first studied construction at the Technical University of Munich , graduating in 1963/64 as a Dipl.-Ing. At Harvard University in Cambridge he studied water chemistry , which he completed in 1965 with an MA and finally in 1968 with a doctorate ( Ph.D. ). 1968/69 he was a research associate in research and teaching at Harvard University. In 1969 he accepted a professorship at the University of Karlsruhe at the Institute for Urban Water Management, of which he also became director in 1969. Today he is an emeritus university professor for urban water management. His fields of activity are research and teaching in aquatic environmental protection, technology transfer , consulting for business, administration and politics.

In the University

Hahn is chairman of numerous committees. From 1979 to 1981 he was Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and from 1989 to 1995 Vice Rector of the University of Karlsruhe. He has been the Erasmus officer for this faculty since 1983.

Outside the university

Hahn is a member of commissions of the German Research Foundation , the Federal Ministries BMU , BMBF , was a member of the OECD commissions from 1972 to 1975 , of the World Health Organization from 1973 to 1983 and of the World Meteorological Organization from 1981 to 1983 . In 1985 he was a reviewer for Tianjin (People's Republic of China). He belongs to the environmental forum of the state of Baden-Württemberg and is the deputy chairman of the environmental advisory board of the Protestant regional church of Baden . Hahn has been a board member of ATV (Association for Water Management, Sewage, Waste) since 1986. From 1996 to 2006 he was President of ATV / DWA and from 1998 to 2001 Vice President of the International Association IWA. He is chairman of the board of the Friends of the Protestant Academy in Baden. In 2006 he became secretary of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences , Academy of Sciences of the State of Baden-Württemberg, and from 2009 to 2013 its president.

Hahn is married and has two sons.
