Hermann Heck

Hermann Josef Heck (* 1940 in Cologne-Nippes ) is a German sports doctor and university professor .

Life

Heck went to school in his hometown and also studied mathematics and economics in Cologne before switching to medicine. During his studies he stayed in Austria for two semesters in order to be able to pursue his passion, skiing, while studying. In 1967 he passed the state examination in Cologne. From 1970 to 1991, Heck worked at the Institute for Circulatory Research and Sports Medicine at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS), where he worked under Wildor Hollmann .

Heck's habilitation thesis on "Lactate in performance diagnostics" was awarded the Carl Diem plaque of the German Sports Association in 1988 . Between 1991 and 1993 Heck was a substitute professor for sports medicine at the Ruhr University in Bochum and from 1993 a full professor. From 1995 to 1999 he was the dean of the Faculty of Sports Science. From 1996 he was a member of the Committee for Medicine and Biology of the Federal Institute for Sports Science .

The focus of his research interests were the subjects of exercise physiology , energy metabolism , ergometry , performance diagnostics and lactate .

In 1975, Heck became a member of the North Rhine Sports Medical Association, and in 1984 he took over the office of chairman.
