Hermann Heinrich Ploss

Hermann Heinrich Ploss (born February 8, 1819 in Leipzig , † December 11, 1885 ibid) was a German gynecologist and anthropologist . He was a full professor at the medical faculty of the University of Leipzig . He published numerous works on sexual medicine and was considered one of the founders of comparative gynecology and pediatrics .

Hermann Ploss studied medicine in Leipzig from 1839 and received his doctorate in 1846. Then he was the municipal doctor for the poor in Leipzig until 1852, deputy district doctor from 1866 to 1867, doctor of the maternity ward until 1875 and a member of the city council from 1875 to 1881.

In 1854 he founded the obstetrical society in Leipzig and was temporarily its director.

His book The Woman in Nature and Ethnology was very popular in its time and had many editions. He also published on obstetrics.
