Life

Until 1928, Henneberg studied medicine in Gießen, Vienna and Göttingen. He passed the state examination in Giessen. A year later he did his doctorate there. med.

In 1937 he joined the NSDAP . He worked as a doctor in Giessen until 1939 and later in Berlin. During the Second World War he served as a medical officer in the French campaign and until 1942 on the Eastern Front, where he was taken prisoner by the Soviets. After his release he was appointed head of the surgical department in Perleberg on August 8, 1948. As early as 1952, he was awarded the title of " Honored Doctor of the People " for his efforts and successes as one of the first doctors in the GDR . Henneberg was a member of the Schwerin district assembly.

Scientifically, he dealt with sports medicine, among other things. In this context, in 1954 in Perleberg, he initiated the “run yourself healthy” movement, which became a running club that bears his name and still exists today. In 1974 he retired. He was buried in Perleberg. On the occasion of his 100th birthday and 50 years after the running club was founded, a history of facts was created.

Running group "Dr. Henneberg 1954 "

The comrades-in-arms of the running group founded by Hermann Henneberg first came from his circle of patients, acquaintances and colleagues, in whom he diagnosed a lack of fitness or psychosomatic complaints. He encouraged them to take part in therapeutic forest runs under his guidance.

He also attended sports festivals of companies and institutions in Perleberg and the surrounding area until the 1970s, in order to win over his clientele to strengthen their stamina and increase their joie de vivre. In addition to the obligatory Sunday runs, which always walked over 10 km, but also up to 25 km with fit runners, he ran almost every day until the end of 1983 and was often accompanied. He never competed in a competition-like fun run. But he was interested in the well-being of his group members who competed in folk competitions.

The organized fun runs did not begin in the GDR until the end of the 1970s. The colleagues of the health-promoting running club were never members of a sports association together. In the factual chronicle, created for the 50th anniversary of the running group and the 100th birthday of the running friend, the origins of this running movement and motives are recorded. About 60 running friends, some of whom are still active today, were interviewed, who ran Sunday laps with the doctor through the woods and meadows in the charming Perleberg area. The statements in the athletic résumés and the stored material of the individuals are recorded in this chronicle. While looking through documents, a scientific essay was found which the doctor wrote by hand in July 1980 and which was kept in the diary-like records of a running friend for over 25 years. This transcript by Hermann Henneberg deals with “running in the context of health sport”. In this he classified the types of runs into: fitness run, stress run and performance run (organized fun run). Numerous principles of conduct are contained in this paper. The publication did not take place at the time. There are no consistent records from the founder of the running group.

From 1980 to 2000 a running friend has around 2000 pages with images and newspaper articles about the Perleberg running events. In addition, there is more to the present, as the weekly records were continued from 2002. All running friends have documents of all kinds as mementos from their jogging days. This is a fund for scientific research. One runner presented 171 certificates, among other things, and another running friend appeared with 4 files. More than 100 joggers were recorded by name.

In 1984 a 16 mm film was made entitled “Perleberger Laufbewegung Dr. Henneberg 1954 “shot. A VHS cassette has existed since 1994.

The 372-page fact sheet, which contains 475 photos and over 180 newspaper and brochure clippings for the historical presentation of the running club, is in the Perleberg City Archives. The Perleberger Volkslauf movement is also represented in it.

It is believed that the running club is the oldest of its kind in Germany.
