Hermann Hoffmann (born January 3, 1924 in Gelsenkirchen ; † February 16, 2012 in Dortmund ) was a German internist and university professor .

Life

Hermann Hoffmann was the son from the marriage of the physician Hermann Hoffmann and his wife Christine, b. Gross-Albenhausen. He was married to Ursula, born in 1955. Chamberlain. The marriage had five children.

After graduating from high school in Gelsenkirchen, he studied medicine , philosophy and psychology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from 1947 to 1953 . He finished his studies in medicine (Dr. med. 1953) and philosophy (Dr. phil. 1952) each with a doctorate and was also recognized as a qualified psychologist (Dipl.-Psych. 1952). In 1959 he became a specialist in internal medicine. In 1962 he completed his habilitation at the University of Bonn. Until 1966 he was a senior physician at the Medical Clinic of the University of Bonn.

Hoffmann was chief physician of the medical clinic from 1967 to 1991 and from 1972 to 1992 medical director of the St. Johannes Hospital in Dortmund and chairman of the hospital board. In 1968 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Bonn ; In 1990 he retired in Bonn.

From 1973 and re-elected several times until 2002 he was President of the Association of Leading Hospital Doctors (VLK) , also known as the "Chief Physician Association". After 2002 he was Honorary President of the Association of Leading Hospital Doctors. From 1973 to 1977 Hoffmann was a member of the chamber assembly of the Westphalia-Lippe Medical Association . He was chairman of the board of trustees of the German Hospital Institute eV (DKI), member of the board of directors of the German Hospital Association (GDK), chairman of the German Hospital Association (ADK), member of the board of the German Hospital Study Society and deputy chairman of the board of directors of the CURA consulting and investment company for social facilities.

In 1971 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Tisserant and invested in the Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew in Frankfurt am Main on December 4, 1971 by Cardinal Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy.
