Hermann Hoffmann SJ (born June 23, 1864 in Elberfeld , † June 1, 1937 in Tokyo ) was a German Roman Catholic priest and philosopher .

Life

In the fall of 1880 he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus as an exate . After the novitiate in Wynandsrade he came 1885-1889 Magister of Feldkirch , then for 3 years into the study of philosophy by Exaten. He was ordained a priest on June 30, 1895 while studying theology at Ditton Hall, England. After his third degree in Tisis , he worked as a philosophy professor from 1902 to 1909. In 1909 he was sent to Munich . He traveled back to Valkenburg aan de Geul to prepare for Japan. On February 24, 1910, he arrived in Tokyo, where he became the founder and rector of Sophia University .
