Hermann Joseph Klein (born September 14, 1844 in Cologne ; † July 1, 1914 there ) was a German astronomer , meteorologist and popular science author.

Life

Klein first learned the book trade, but later studied mathematics and astronomy and set up a private observatory in Cologne . Klein was best known for careful observations of the surface of the moon . He was then director of the weather station of the Kölnische Zeitung and from 1865 to 1908 editor of the scientific journal Gaea and from 1878 to 1914 in the same function responsible for the popular astronomical journal Sirius .

Since 1890 he also published the yearbook of astronomy and geophysics . Klein could no longer realize the edition planned for 1913 himself. The Radeberg natural scientist Theodor Arldt took on this task and in July 1914 acted as the editor of the last volume XXIV, with which the publication was discontinued.

The little moon crater is named after him.
