Hermann Kletzmayr (politician, 1873)

Hermann Kletzmayr (born January 24, 1873 in Ternberg , Upper Austria; † May 26, 1949 in Steyr , Upper Austria) was an Austrian worker, trade union official and politician of the Christian Social Party (CS).

Life

The son of a mason foreman first worked in agriculture and only later learned the mason trade. In 1896 he became a worker in the Werndl arms factory in Steyr. His marriage to the daughter of a carpenter resulted in three children, the son Hermann later became a member of the state parliament and a member of the Upper Austrian provincial government. During the First World War , Kletzmayr was on the Italian front from 1915 and received several awards. In 1917 he was called back to have a calming effect on the Steyr workforce.

Political career

In 1898 Kletzmayr became a member and in 1899 chairman of the Catholic workers' association in Steyr. He ran in the Reichsrat election in 1907 in the constituency of Austria above the Enns 4 , but was defeated in the runoff election. From 1908 to 1920 he was the state secretary of the Christian trade unions in Upper Austria , then their regional chairman until 1933. In 1918/1919 he became a member of the provisional state assembly , but was then mainly active in federal politics. March 4, 1919 to November 9, 1920, he was member of the Constituent National Assembly and 10 November 1920 to the 1 October 1930 Member of the National Council ( I. , II. And III. Legislative period ). Here he was chairman of the subcommittee for workers' and disability insurance and came out primarily as a rapporteur on social policy and labor law matters. Kletzmayr enjoyed a great reputation and was one of the top politicians in the Christian labor movement. Among other things, he was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
