Hermann Koch (sculptor)

Hermann Koch (born September 11, 1920 in Stolberg ; † January 4, 1997 ibid) was a German painter, sculptor and graphic artist. From February 1949 he worked as a graphic designer in the graphic department of Mäurer & Wirtz , Stolberg. As an authorized signatory, he was head of the advertising, design and graphics department and thus art director until he retired in 1985. Under his leadership, cosmetic series such as B. Tabac Original , Nonchalance, Gran Valor, Ravissa, Tournament, RIAR, Suggestion etc. for nationally and internationally recognized brands.

Life

Koch trained as a lithographer . During the Second World War, Koch served in the Navy . He then attended the graphics and painting department at the Aachen School of Applied Arts , where he worked with Peters-Hardy. Koch was a member of the Association of Visual Artists NRW Cologne - Essen . At Mäurer & Wirtz he was the head of the graphics and advertising department. It was his wish to be buried on the high seas in northern Germany.

In addition to his job as chief designer with up to 20 employees for the cosmetics and soap company M&W, Koch worked independently as a painter. His artistic estate (paintings and drawings from 1938 to 1988) is curated by his widow Elke Koch in Langerwehe / Hamich. According to his design, a bluestone metal sculpture was made and installed in Breinig on Wilhelm-Pitz-Platz in 1988. The Eifel- und Heimatverein Breinig realized this sculpture project in public space on the corner of Wilhelm-Pitz-Straße and Neustraße. The sculpture combines the elements of the Breiniger homeland stone, bluestone, ores, calamine as well as the symbols for music and poaching.
