Hermann Lange (cathedral dean)

Hermann Lange (born December 19, 1880 at sea near Cape Finisterre , Spain, † 1942 in Osnabrück ) was a German Catholic clergyman.

biography

Lange graduated from high school and studied Catholic theology at the University of Münster , the University of Freiburg and the Fulda Theological University . In 1906 he was ordained a priest in Osnabrück .

Lange received his first job as a chaplain at St. Marien (Bremen-Walle) . In 1911 he moved to St. Johann (Bremen) as a chaplain , where he was able to take over a pastor's position in 1914. The Bremen Caritas Association was founded in 1917 and Lange took over management functions at Caritas and organized the merger of the charitable institutions and associations of the Catholic communities in Bremen. In 1924 he initiated the Ansgarius (from 1936 church messenger ), the Bremen Catholic Sunday newspaper.

Lange was a member of the Bremen citizenship from 1928 to 1931 . He was active in the deputation for welfare. Lange was a member of the Bremen Historical Society and did research in the field of medieval Catholic history.

As cathedral dean he was appointed to the Osnabrück cathedral chapter by Bishop Hermann Wilhelm Berning in 1931 .

Lange was the uncle and role model of the chaplain and executed Nazi victim Hermann Lange (1912–1943).

Honors

The Hermann Lange Street in Bremen- Obervieland was named in 2001 after him.
