Hermann Ohlthaver

Hermann Ohlthaver (* 1883 in Germany , † 1979 in South Africa ) was a German-Namibian entrepreneur in what was then the German protected area of German South West Africa .

Together with Carl List, Ohlthaver was the founder of what is today (as of June 2017) the largest private company in the country, the Ohlthaver & List Group of Companies . However, Ohlthaver left the joint company five years after it was founded in 1924.

Trivia

The Hermann Ohlthaver Trust , which is primarily committed to education, and the Hermann Ohlthaver Institute for Aeronomy at Rhodes University have existed in South Africa since 1972 . In addition, the ballrooms of old people's homes in Windhoek and Pretoria are named after Hermann Ohlthaver.
