Hermann Pfeiffer (clergyman)

Hermann Pfeiffer (born June 28, 1907 in Rohrbach im Mühlviertel in Upper Austria , † April 20, 1991 ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic clergyman. He was President of Caritas Austria and Provost of the Cathedral in Linz .

Life

Hermann Pfeiffer graduated from the Linz State High School and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1930 by Bishop Gföllner . Afterwards he was chaplain in St. Georgen an der Gusen , in Grieskirchen and in Gmunden , before he was appointed in 1942 by Bishop Fließer as the church contribution officer of the diocesan chamber. From 1949 to 1982 he headed the Caritas of the Diocese of Linz . During his term of office, he dealt with the influx of refugees after World War II and the flood disaster of 1954 . From 1952 to 1964 he was also President of Caritas Austria.

The expansion of the kindergarten system in the Parish Caritas, as well as the expansion of family support, were of particular concern to him.

In 1964 he was appointed to the Linz cathedral chapter , in 1981 he became cathedral dean and from 1984 to 1990 he was provost .
