Sandbühl is a desert in the statistical district 10 of the city of Nuremberg .

The former wasteland was in the open ground at a height of 302  m above sea level. NHN on the left bank of the Pegnitz , south of the Wöhrder Wiese . Immediately to the east was Vogelsgarten , about 0.1 km to the west of Flächenhof , about 0.1 km to the south-east of Dürrenhof .

history

The place was called "powder mill at Sandbühl in front of the Frauentor", "powder mill near Tullnau behind the Vogels garden", or "powder mill behind Wöhrd". It was operated as a powder mill in the 16th and 17th centuries and destroyed five times by explosions during this time. From 1723 it was used as a mirror glass grinding and polishing mill.

It is unclear when the wasteland of Sandbühl was created. Towards the end of the 18th century, the place was also known as "the high Städel" or "high garden". It consisted of an inn, a stable master's apartment and eleven stables. The powder mill near Sandbühl had 4 properties (1 mirror factory, 1 estate, 1 house). The high court exercised the imperial city of Nuremberg , but this was disputed by the Brandenburg-Ansbach Vogtamt Schönberg . The sole landlord was the office of the master of interest in the imperial city of Nuremberg.

As part of the municipal edict, Sandbühl was assigned to the Gleißhammer tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Gleißhammer founded in the same year . In 1825 Sandbühl was incorporated into Nuremberg .

From 1812, under the owner Johann Zacharias Lotzbeck, a red lead factory for the production of mirror foils was added. From the middle of the 19th century until 1924, production was switched to graphite and crucibles. In 1930 a glass grinding shop moved into the old mill, which was operated until it was completely destroyed in 1943 BC. a. Thick glass and car windows machined.

The place has been predominantly Protestant since the Reformation. Originally the inhabitants of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination were parish in St. Lorenz (Nuremberg) , later to St. Peter (Nuremberg) .
