Woehrder meadow
The Wöhrder Wiese is an inner-city green area along the Pegnitz and Wöhrder lakes in the center of Nuremberg , south of the Wöhrd district . It is part of the Franconian sand axis . Below the weir of the Lower Wöhrder See, the Wöhrder Wiese is bounded by the Pegnitz and its southern arm.
use
The area is used intensively by those seeking relaxation and recreational athletes and for leisure and cultural events; From May to September there is a field of experience for the senses and beer gardens in summer . Cyclists and pedestrians cross the Wöhrder Wiese on the way from the east of Nuremberg to the city center. Every year in March, the six-hour run takes place on a circuit.
Surroundings
On both sides of the Wöhrder Wiese there are building complexes of different faculties of the Technical University of Nuremberg . Therefore, students like to use the green space to linger and relax. On the northern edge of the Wöhrder Wiese, on the other side of the Pegnitz, the Prinzregentenufer, named after Luitpold of Bavaria , extends with the Bismarck monument, which is lined by a double-row plane tree avenue . It was laid out in the first decade of the 20th century and is now a natural monument . The Wöhrder Wiese underground station is on the western edge . Wöhrder Wiese is also the name of District 021 in District 21 Marienvorstadt , but the area is not identical to the green corridor.
At the beginning of spring, numerous forest yellow stars bloom on the Wöhrder meadow, especially at its edges . In the middle of the meadow, a memorial in the form of metallic stacks of paper and an inscription on the former site of the Hadermühle commemorates the construction of the first German paper mill in 1390 and its initiator, the Nuremberg councilor and manufacturer Ulman Stromer .
