Hermann Rüdisühli (full name Traugott Hermann Rüdisühli ; born June 10, 1864 in Lenzburg , Switzerland , † January 27, 1944 in Munich ) was a Swiss painter . He belongs to the artist family Rüdisühli .

biography

Hermann Rüdisühli studied from 1883 to 1887 at the Karlsruhe Academy with Ferdinand Keller and Karl Brünner . Between 1888 and 1898 he ran painting schools in Stuttgart and Basel . In 1898 he moved to Munich. Rüdisühli initially achieved great success with his paintings in Munich, especially in aristocratic circles. At last he lived in great poverty and died of suicide after his apartment and studio had been destroyed by a bomb attack .

Rüdisühli painted landscapes , portraits and allegories . His work includes mythological and heroic images. He was influenced by Arnold Böcklin . His oeuvre includes over 1000 paintings.

reception

The greatest admirer and collector of his works is Johannes Neckermann, son of mail order merchant and dressage rider Josef Neckermann . Neckermann, who lives in the USA, has been collecting the paintings of the Rüdisühli family for over 25 years .

The American Yager Museum in Oneonta, NY, presented the collection in 2001. For the first time in 105 years, an exhibition showed paintings by the entire family of artists.
