Hermann Scheffler (politician, 1920)

Hermann Scheffler (born March 29, 1920 in Hemer-Westig , † January 11, 1983 in Hemer ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Hermann Scheffler attended elementary school and then completed a commercial apprenticeship with an assistant test. From 1941 to 1945 he took part in the Wehrmacht in World War II .

After the war he studied at the University of Cologne economics . In 1946 Scheffler joined the SPD. There he became youth secretary in 1947, subdistrict manager in 1953 and finally regional manager in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1960 . In addition, from 1949 to 1953 he was a member of the federal board of the Socialist Youth . In 1953 and 1957 Scheffler ran unsuccessfully for the German Bundestag on the SPD's state list of North Rhine-Westphalia .

From 1953 Scheffler was a city councilor in Hohenlimburg and was finally mayor there from 1968 to 1974. From 1962 to 1966 Scheffler was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1968 he moved again to the state parliament and stayed there until 1970. In addition, Scheffler was from 1967 to 1970 and from 1973 to 1975 chairman of the North Rhine-Westphalian Association of Towns and Municipalities and from 1955 to 1973 a member of the WDR Broadcasting Council . From 1972 to 1980, Scheffler was a directly elected member of the Iserlohn constituency in the German Bundestag .
