Hermann Walter (classical philologist)

Hermann Walter (born March 4, 1934 in Neuwied ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

Hermann Walter studied classical philology at the University of Göttingen , where he in 1963 with a dissertation on the late antique grammarians Solinus Dr. phil. received his doctorate . In 1969 he went to the University of Mannheim as a research assistant to Ernst Vogt , where he was involved in setting up the seminar for classical philology. In 1976 he was appointed as an academic councilor . After his habilitation (1978), he was appointed senior academic counselor and professor in June 1980. He retired in 1999.

In addition to the Roman grammarians, the reception of ancient mythology is one of Walter's main areas of research.
