Hermann Weidemann (politician)

Hermann Karl Otto Weidemann (born September 7, 1887 in Ribnitz , † July 26, 1961 in Hofgeismar ) was a Hessian politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

After primary school, Hermann Weidemann worked as a printer. From 1905 he was a member of the SPD and the Association of German Book Printers . In 1919 he worked as an editor for the Hofgeismarer Zeitung . From 1919 to 1933 he was a city councilor, alderman and member of the district council for the SPD. From 1928 to 1933 member of the Kassel Municipal Parliament and the Provincial Parliament of the Hesse-Nassau Province .

On May 2, 1933 and July 20, 1944 he was arrested and held in Sachsenhausen concentration camp .

The US occupation forces appointed him acting mayor of the city of Hofgeismar on April 24, 1945 , whose office he held until 1948. Between July 15, 1946 and November 30, 1946, Weidemann was a member of the state assembly of Greater Hesse that advised the constitution and from December 1, 1946 to November 30, 1954, a member of the Hessian state parliament.

Weidemann had been married to Ida Moll since 1909 and had four daughters. His daughter Lotti had to work as a worker in an armaments factory and died in an Allied bombing raid on Kassel.
