from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Zemlin (born March 27, 1941 in Magdeburg ) is a former senior civil servant ( ministerial director ) in the Federal Ministry of Transport and the State Ministry of Transport in North Rhine-Westphalia . He is an honorary professor at the University of Karlsruhe , traffic expert and manager.

Life

After an apprenticeship as a machinist, Zemlin completed an engineering degree and wrote his dissertation on the subject of "Experimental determination of integral Joule-Thomson effects of pure gases and binary gas mixtures" in 1970 at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe .

His further professional career, however, was determined by his interest in local public transport (ÖPNV). As an avowed SPD member, he was ministerial director in the Federal Ministry of Transport under ministers Kurt Gscheidle and Volker Hauff . After the fall of the Wall in 1982, he became ministerial director in the State Ministry of Transport in North Rhine-Westphalia under Christoph Zöpel . Then Zemlin was chairman of the board of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr GmbH until 1993 .

In April 1993, Zemlin moved to Wuppertaler Stadtwerke AG (today a group of companies that consists of SW Wuppertaler Stadtwerke GmbH, WSW Energie & Wasser AG and WSW mobil GmbH ) as CEO .

The same tasks awaited Zemlin at his next station: From 1999 to 2008 Zemlin was managing director of Stadtwerke Bonn GmbH. In Bonn, too, he followed the restructuring of the company from its own municipal operation to a modern GmbH. Although his activity at the Bonn public utilities was only planned until 2006 in order to be able to retire at the age of 65, Zemlin extended his contract at the urging of Bonn's mayor Bärbel Dieckmann and the works council for another two years before joining the Retirement was adopted. However, Zemlin remained managing director of Bonn City Parkraum GmbH, which operates the inner city underground car parks.

At the age of 70, Hermann Zemlin was again head of the Stadtwerke. In 2011 he was brought to Waldbröl to found a new Stadtwerke GmbH there. As the honorary founding managing director of Stadtwerke Waldbröl GmbH, it was initially only his job to initiate the repurchase of the power grids and select a managing director. When he resigned after only one and a half years, Zemlin was reappointed as managing director in Waldbröl in 2013 to look for a cooperation partner.

On April 21, 2015, at the age of 74, Zemlin was appointed managing director by the supervisory board of ESWE Verkehrsgesellschaft Wiesbaden . Since then he has been responsible for the merger of the transport companies in the Hessian state capital, which have been split up into several individual companies. As managing director of CityBahn GmbH, founded in August 2017 by Mainzer Stadtwerke AG and WVV Wiesbaden Holding GmbH, Zemlin is working on the construction of a new 40-kilometer tram connection between the Mainz University of Applied Sciences and the city center of Bad Schwalbach.

Private

Hermann Zemlin is active as the chairman of the board of trustees of the "Förderverein Altes Rathaus" in Bonn. He is also deputy chairman of the " Bonn Capitals " baseball club . Zemlin has been an honorary citizen of the city of Huntsville, Alabama , since the early 1970s , where he helped set up a bus system.
