Shehu III cabinet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shehu III cabinet was a government of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania , formed on July 16, 1962 by Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu of the Party of Labor of Albania PPSh (Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë) . It replaced the Shehu II cabinet and remained in office until July 14, 1966, after which it was replaced by the Shehu IV cabinet .

The government reshuffle followed the parliamentary elections on June 3, 1962. The Council of Ministers was significantly enlarged, including up to three first deputy chairpersons and - except for Beqir Balluku's dual role - up to three deputy chairpersons. Gogo Nushi was the only one to resign from the previous government, but retained important offices, including in the Bashkimi Sindikal i Shqipërisë trade union federation . Thus, the break with the Soviet Union in 1961 and rapprochement with China had no impact on the government of Albania.

The cabinet has been redesigned repeatedly:

  • On January 1, 1965, the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Geology was split into an Industry Ministry under Koço Theodhosi (already a member of the government as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers) and an Agriculture Ministry under Pirro Dodbiba .
  • At the same time, Abdyl Këllezi was appointed third First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers; Adil Çarçani , the former minister of industry, mining and geology, became third vice chairman of the Council of Ministers to succeed Manush Myftiu , who had been treated abroad for an illness in 1963. His successor as Minister of Education and Culture was Fadil Paçrami .
  • On January 1, 1966, Kiço Ngjela was appointed the new Foreign Trade Minister.
  • At the same time, Abdyl Këllezi had to give up his post as First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers; In 1968 he became chairman of the State Planning Commission and a member of the successor government.
  • A major reorganization took place on March 18, 1966:
    • The remaining two first deputy chairmen of the Council of Ministers lost this office: Beqir Balluku became the new Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, and Spiro Koleka was appointed Chairman of the State Planning Commission instead of Koço Theodhosi.
    • Haki Toska became a new member of the government as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers. Koço Theodhosi also lost the post of deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers, but he was retained as the government's Minister of Industry appointed at the beginning of the year. Deputies of the Prime Minister were Shehu III Balluku, Toska and Çarçani in the last four months of the cabinet.
    • In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the chairmanship of Behar Shtylla passed to Nesti Nase .
    • In the Ministry of Education and Culture, Thoma Deljana replaced Fadil Paçrami, who had only been appointed last year.
