Pirro Dodbiba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pirro Dodbiba (* 1925 in Elbasan ; † April 2004 ) was an Albanian politician of the Party of Labor of Albania .

biography

Dodbiba came from an influential family from Elbasan in central Albania. His father Sokrat Dodbiba was an economist and Minister of Finance between November 1943 and July 1944 . His brother Niko Dodbiba was ambassador to Bulgaria , while his brother Bardhyl Dodbiba became an officer in the armed forces .

During the Second World War , from 1942 to 1944 he participated in the Dajti as a partisan in the communist anti-fascist war of independence and later was political commissar . After the end of the war, he studied agricultural science from 1945 to 1950 at the Timaryasew Academy , the state agricultural university of the Soviet Union , and graduated with a diploma in agricultural planning . On his return he was first Vice Minister for Agriculture before he became director of the Agricultural Institute ( Institutit të Lartë Bujqësor ) founded by him in 1951 .

Dodbiba, who was also a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PPSh, was then from 1956 to 1966 head of the Central Committee's Department of Agriculture. In 1962 he became a member of the People's Assembly ( Kuvendi Popullor ) for the first time and belonged to it in the fifth to eighth electoral term.

On January 1, 1965, he became Minister of Agriculture in the government of Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu and was a member of this until his dismissal on April 29, 1976.

During his tenure as minister, agriculture became increasingly important, so that after 1971 steadily growing targets were set by the Central Committee. In the years before, there were repeated problems in the agricultural sector and the failure to achieve the planning goals in agricultural production. In addition, rapid modernization and consolidation of the state farms were demanded from the leadership of the party. As a minister, he also headed an agricultural delegation on a trip to the People's Republic of China in 1971 , where he met the Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai and the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Fa Sheng .

At the 6th party congress of the PPSh in November 1971 he was elected as a candidate for the Politburo of the PPSh . He retained this function until he left in April 1976. On November 15, 1976, he also lost his seat in the People's Assembly.

The reason for his dismissal as minister in April 1976 was "professional failure" in the implementation of the partisan production goals in agriculture.

After the collapse of communism , in 2003 he was chairman of the National Committee of War Veterans of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War of the Albanian People ( Komiteti Kombëtar i Veteranëve të Luftës Antifashiste Nacional-Çlirimtare të Popullit Shqiptar ).
