Hermann Hartmann von Erffa (born July 31, 1845 in Ahorn (near Coburg) , † June 10, 1912 in Wernburg ) was a Thuringian landowner, agrarian advocate and conservative politician in Prussia .

Life

He came from the Thuringian noble family von Erffa . Born the second son of Ferdinand Hartmann von Erffa and the Emmy von Baumbach , he studied law and political science in Bonn and Göttingen as well as agricultural science in Hohenheim . In Bonn he became a member of the Corps Borussia . In 1872 he married Elisabeth, the daughter of Freiherr Karl Varnbüler von und zu Hemmingen , with whom he had three daughters and three sons: Margarethe (1873–1944), Hildegard (1874–1945), Sabine (1876–1974), Georg (1877 –1937), Burkhard (1879–1904) andRudolf (1881–1972).

In 1872 Erffa took over the majorate of Wernburg with Seebach near Pößneck and the Örlsdorf and Rohof goods near Sonneberg in what was then the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen .

From 1883 to 1908 Erffa was chairman of the Thuringian Chamber of Agriculture and from 1889 was a member of the Prussian State Economics College . He was also a functionary of the Federation of Farmers . Between 1881 and 1912 he was a member of the German Agriculture Council and from 1895 a member of its standing committee. Erffa published some economic and agricultural writings.

From 1874 Erffa was head of office , from 1875 belonged to the provincial parliament and was there deputy of the Ziegenrück district . From 1885 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives as a member of the conservative party . He was a member of the party's parliamentary group in 1894 and 1895 and again from 1908. He was secretary in parliament in 1888 as well as in 1898 and 1899 and was part of the budget commission. In 1912 he was elected President of the Prussian House of Representatives. Shortly afterwards he succumbed to the effects of a stroke.
