Hermann von Richthofen

Hermann Manfred Georg Freiherr von Richthofen (born November 20, 1933 in Breslau ) is a former German diplomat . The doctor of law was the German ambassador to London from 1989 to 1993 and to NATO from 1993 to 1998.

Life

Richthofen is the second of three children of Friedrich Herbert von Richthofen (1900–1966) and his wife Gisela, b. Schoeller (* 1908)

After attending school, von Richthofen studied law in Munich , Heidelberg and Bonn from 1955 to 1958 . In 1955 he became a member of the Corps Vandalo-Guestphalia Heidelberg. He completed his training in 1963 at the Law Faculty of the University of Cologne with the graduation to the Dr. jur. , with a thesis on admissibility and barriers comparative product tests for consumer education.

In 1963 von Richthofen joined the Federal Republic of Germany's Foreign Service. His career took him to Saigon (1966–1968), Jakarta (1968–1970) and the GDR . He reached the high point of his career in the 1980s when he was appointed German ambassador to London. Most recently he was the German representative at NATO.

family

Richthofen married on March 26, 1966 in Urfeld near Cologne, Countess Christa von Schwerin (born June 9, 1942 in Königsberg), a daughter of Count Otto von Schwerin and his wife Esther, née. Countess Eckbrecht v. Dürckheim-Montmartin. The marriage resulted in a son and two daughters.

The famous fighter pilot of the First World War, Manfred von Richthofen , was a great uncle of Richthofen.
