The Hermannsberg is a 404 m high elevation on the edge of the Bavarian Forest in the municipality of Wiesent in the district of Regensburg .
The Hermannsberg protrudes around eighty meters above the Danube lowland to the south, and the Wiesent valley runs to the west . Vineyards used to exist on its steep southwest slope, which is now wooded . The wasteland Hermannsberg lies on the flat plateau sloping to the northeast.
Origin of name
The mountain was named after Hermann Joseph von Lemmen , lord of the Heilsberg zu Wiesent rulership . He left the "small desolate mountains" to the Society of Holy Solitude in order to found the Heilsberg Monastery there, whereupon they named the mountain Hermannsberg out of gratitude.
