The Hermannskarsee is a small high mountain lake in the Allgäu Alps in North Tyrol .
Location and development
The Hermannskarsee is located at an altitude of 2216 m in the Hermannskar, a rocky high valley in the Hornbach chain . The cirque and lake are surrounded by the Großer Krottenkopf in the southwest, the Hornbachspitze to the west and the Faulewandspitzen in the north. The Marchspitze rises to the east. The entire lake is located in Tyrol, about one kilometer southeast of the border with Bavaria. Reachable u. a. from Elbigenalp / Lechtal via the Hermann von Barth hut or the Bernhardseck hut, or from the Kemptner hut via the Krottenkopfscharte

The lake is rocky, gerölliger environment above the tree line and into frozen and usually up in the summer covered with snow. The lake has an oval shape and measures around 160 by 100 meters, depending on the inflow, which changes with the seasons.
