The Marchspitze ( 2609 m above sea level ) is a prominent peak made of main dolomite in the Hornbach range of the Allgäu Alps . It is located 1.5 km east of the much better known Großer Krottenkopf, entirely in Austria .
Ascent
Due to the demanding ascent, it is only moderately visited. The normal route begins in the middle of the Hermannskar, where you leave the connecting route from the Kemptner Hütte to the Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte . T. rises pathless over a steep ridge to the Spiehlerscharte ( 2395 m ). At the saddle, change to the north flank of the mountain and approach a conspicuous gully through which, after climbing another gully (climbing up to UIAA II ), one reaches the west ridge. Above and below the ridge, e.g. Partly exposed and with a few climbing spots up to UIAA I, we continue to the summit. The route is sparsely marked with stone men. The walking time from the Hermann von Barth hut is three hours. A more difficult route (climbing to UIAA II) leads over the south ridge up the mountain. The round tour is popular: ascent via the south ridge and descent via the normal route.
