Weißenstein (noble family)

The Lords of Weißenstein were previously called von Kräheneck and were usually called "von Stein" in documents. The Weißensteiners were feudal men of the Margraves of Baden . A Rudolf von Roßwag was a cousin of the von Stein brothers.

Castles built and / or inhabited by the family

Weissenstein Castle, first mentioned in 1037 with its shield wall , has also been called Rabeneck since the 19th century and was the family's ancestral castle; Kräheneck Castle was probably originally a bailey to defend Weißenstein. In the south of the Huchenfeld area there was a branch of the family at Hoheneck Castle , which was called von Hoheneck. The castle ruin Liebeneck above the Würmtal , which was built in the 12th century, probably served as income through raft customs.

After the Altroßwag branch of the Lords of Roßwag died out in the 14th century, Altroßwag Castle and the associated shares in the Roßwag community came to the relatives "Wolf and Jacob von Stein", who finally passed their inheritance on March 13, 1394 here already wealthy Maulbronn Monastery sold.
