The castle ruin Liebeneck is the ruin of a high medieval spur castle in the southwest part of the Heckengäus , a forest area southeast of the Würm district of Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg .

location

The castle ruins are located on a hill above the Würm with a view over the Würmtal. It is located in a forest at 415 m above sea level. The Liebeneck ruins cannot be reached by car, only forest paths (e.g. the Ostweg ) lead there.

history

The original castle complex was probably built in the 12th century. The first documentary mention was made in 1236 on the occasion of the transfer of the castle and the village of Würm from the Lords of Weißenstein to Kräheneck to Margrave Rudolf von Baden. The castle was supposed to protect the raft customs post on the river . Later the castle was inherited by the Lords of Weißenstein and then came into the possession of the Lords of Leutrum von Ertingen .

In 1692, during the Orleans War , the castle burned down. In 1828 it was transferred to the Baden state. The complex was then destroyed as planned so that "rabble could not find shelter there" (see notice board). Between 1968 and 1977 the 30 m high keep was renovated.

investment

The keep and some of the walls surrounding the castle courtyard are still standing from the original structure . The double pentagonal wall ring with its outer works and kennels characterize this ground monument . The ruin has been secured by the building department. There is detailed information on an orientation board directly at the ruins.
