The Ankershagen mansion is a mansion in Ankershagen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

history

The building was built near a medieval moated castle that was destroyed in the Thirty Years War . The remains of Ankershagen Castle , an approximately 80 meter long earth ridge and some parts of the stone foundation, the walls and a free-standing bastion with loopholes were partially reconstructed in 1997.

To the west of this castle a mansion (the so-called "Old House") was built before 1551, which was probably rebuilt between 1550 and 1570 in the Renaissance style or supplemented by a new building, known as the "New House". To what extent the old substance was integrated is not known. The mansion was laid out at right angles. Presumably at the end of the 19th century a stair tower and an entrance area were added in the corner between the two wings.

The building has been rebuilt and expanded many times, so that little remains of the original structure. The west wing is largely unadorned. On the north side of the other wing, two decorative turrets have been preserved.

The von Holstein family , who had owned Ankershagen since around 1200, had to pledge the estate in the 17th century. After that, the owners changed frequently. In 1743 the Oertzen (noble family) bought the estate. This was followed by Mr Strecker in 1831, Ludwig Voss in 1854, Ernst Winkelmann in 1875, Count von Bernstorff in 1889 , Oskar Wulff in 1897 and Paul Klotz from 1928 to 1945.

From 1769 to 1771 the writer and later Homer translator Johann Heinrich Voss worked as a private tutor in the building. After 1945 the mansion served as a school until 1997. Since then it has not been used and is empty.
