Pastor sien Kauh

Pastor sien Kauh is a Low German folk song that is also sung as a round song. The mocking song is about the death of a cow that belonged to a pastor : at Easter it was still alive and well, but at Whitsun it suddenly and unexpectedly lay dead in the stable. The cow's body is then distributed as if by emergency slaughter . This distribution in favor of the residents of a village is sung about in a cheerful, sad or mocking and mocking manner in the style of a joking relationship .

Historical sources

In his literary study of the folk song Mr. Pastor sien Kauh , Karl Wehrhan names the Roman author Titus Petronius as the oldest source , who in the fragment The Banquet of Trimalchio describes a pig that distributes its body in a will. This pig testament can then be proven in literature from ancient times through the Middle Ages to modern times. And - like a counterpart - Francesco Novati wrote the will of a donkey, which can also be found in other sources.
