history

In pastoral care, the Catholic Batenhorster belonged to St. Aegidius in Wiedenbrück. As the distances to the neighboring parishes of St. Vitus in St. Vit, Stromberg or St. Lambertus and St. Laurentius in Langenberg were shorter, the services were attended there. At the beginning of the 20th century there was a desire for an own chapel.

A teacher in Batenhorst called a public meeting on November 26, 1905, on the construction of the new chapel. During the meeting, a church building association was founded, which after a short time had collected 13,000 marks. At a further meeting on January 7, 1906, the location of the chapel was voted on. A colon wanted to give away a piece of land for the new building. In the assembly a board for the construction preparation was put together. On November 22, 1906, the Kolon transferred one acre of land to the church building association. At the end of the month the church council of St. Aegidius in Wiedenbrück submitted the application for approval of the new building to the bishop. On December 20th of that year the application went to the district government in Berlin.

On October 22, 1907, the necessary permits were obtained and the chapel board decided to build the chapel, which the church board of St. Aegidius confirmed three days later. The work began on November 13th, which, as far as possible, was carried out in-house. After the winter break, the foundation stone for the new chapel was laid on March 29, 1908. The topping-out ceremony took place on May 24th.

Other foundations, such as the high altar and the bells , were made to the chapel building association. The bells were consecrated on August 3, 1908 in the courtyard of the donors. These were housed in the roof turret of the church, because a church tower was initially not built.

The church was consecrated on October 20, 1908 .

The branch congregation was raised to a parish vicarie on May 26, 1941 .

In 1947 it was decided to add a steeple to the church. On November 20, 1949, after some imponderables, the topping-out ceremony was held again. In March 1950 the tower was boarded, in May the helmet was covered with slate.

In 1956 the church was extensively renovated.

In 1958 the Vicarie Herz Jesu was assigned to the newly founded St. Pius congregation in Wiedenbrück.

In 1959 the church received drainage pipes, the roof structure was repaired and the church received a concrete ring anchor that strengthened the masonry.

In 1960 the church was rebuilt: the organ gallery was renewed, the choir was redesigned and a new altar was installed, the plastering and painting of the church were renewed and the windows were repaired.

Archbishop Lorenz Jaeger consecrated the church on October 20, 1960 and placed a relic of St. Adeodatus in the new altar.

Facilities

In 1920, an organ from the Speith-Orgelbau company from Rietberg was built into the church through a fundraising campaign that raised 75,000 marks and six oaks . It was inaugurated on September 8, 1921.
