Batenhorst [ ˈbaʁtənhɔʁst ] is a district of the town of Rheda-Wiedenbrück in the Gütersloh district . The Westphalian town has 1514 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2014) and is 1690 hectares in size.
history
In 1867 the municipality of Batenhorst was reorganized by hiving off from the municipality of Langenberg . Until the municipal reorganization in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia , which came into force on January 1, 1970, it belonged to the Reckenberg Office .

Buildings worth seeing in Batenhorst are the Haus Aussel from the 16th century, a former baronial Burgmannshof and the Catholic Herz-Jesu-Kirche (1908, expanded 1949).
education
Until 1967 there were two elementary schools in Batenhorst, the Bonifatiusschule and the school I am Meerweg. In 1967 both were merged, so that Batenhorst only had one school, the Bonifatiusschule, founded in 1892. This was closed in 2015 due to a lack of student registrations. The secondary schools are located in Wiedenbrück, including the Ratsgymnasium , one of the oldest grammar schools in the region.

Batenhorst is the intersection of the B61 and B55 and is therefore connected to the international highways. The next motorway is the A2 , which can be reached quickly via the AS Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Local public transport consists of a regional bus and a city bus line that connect Batenhorst with Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Langenberg and Lippstadt . Until 1979 Batenhorst had its own train station on the Münster - Rheda-Wiedenbrück - Lippstadt railway line . Today the next train station is in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. The closest international airport is Paderborn / Lippstadt Airport .
Regular events
Well known far beyond the borders of Batenhorst is the shooting festival of the St. Hubertus Batenhorst shooting association, which takes place annually on the fourth weekend in July and attracts hundreds of visitors to Batenhorst. In addition, an Easter fire is lit on Easter Sunday and a maypole is set up on April 30th . Always in even years, 2010, 2012, 2014 ... the parish festival takes place around the church. Also in the shadow of the church there is a small Advent market on the 1st Sunday of Advent.
